Two steered hours on one path, joined by common-tone welds

Colours

Fields and welds

Pick hour A. Partners that share a steering are listed — click one to load B, the shared path, and the best start.

Shared paths

Hours that can walk the same path. Offset the starts and pair by common tones.

Weld-interval rules

A two-note weld between two hours occurs only when both triads contain the pair’s characteristic interval class.

Manual procedure

  1. Write hour A’s four triads on the chosen steering.
  2. In each triad, locate the weld interval from the table above.
  3. List the hour-B triads that contain the same interval.
  4. Choose one B triad per row so the eight triads together use each pitch-class once.
  5. The four B triads lie on a transposition of the same path; that transposition is B’s starting pitch.

About this tool

Calculates two complete steered hours on a shared path and reports common-tone welds between corresponding triads. For a single 12-note partition, use the Aggregate Builder.

  • Fields and welds — choose hours A and B, a shared steering, and two path starts.
  • Welds — green: two pitch-classes in common; gold: one.
  • Find best B start — tests all twelve transpositions of path B and retains the alignment with the most two-note welds.
  • Shared paths — hours that can be steered by the same path-hour.
